Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet

Origins

Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet is the inspiration born of many years’ professional dance experience on the part of founders Sarah Berges and Honey Almazar.

Ms. Almazar, originally from London, trained in her native England. Since 1990 she has enjoyed a performing and teaching career in the US, eventually settling in Los Angeles. Ms. Berges, originally from Berkeley California, trained, performed and choreographed in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Los Angeles. The two met and founded the Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet in 2006.

Ms. Berges and Ms. Almazar instantly recognized in each other a passion for ballet, an abiding belief in the intrinsic value of dance and an urgent need to materialize their vision of technically polished, yet deeply expressive ballet dancing. Thus, the mission of their new company, Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet, is to create new choreography as fully realized works of art, brilliantly executed. A further mission is to develop a repertory company of highly skilled dancers who will energize audiences with their performances, and who will inspire joy and excitement as well as thoughtful reflection.
